If you could have me write a fic specifically for you, what would it be like? Fandom, characters/pairing, genre, plot elements, kinks (if applicable)... what's your ideal fic from me?
netgirl_y2k: (nina she wolf)
I feel like writing. More than that - because a lot of what I've been writing recently has been longish, thoughtful canon fic - what I want to write is tropey ficlets.

So give me a pairing, or a character or two, and pick a number.

I have a pretty dull week ahead of me, so the more the merrier!
netgirl_y2k: (brand new day)
As a part of the homework I get from my counsellor-therapist type person, I'm sitting here making a list of my finer qualities. So far I have that I'm funny, reasonably well-read, and kind to children, the elderly, and people who work in service jobs. I mean, I'm kind to other people too, but outside of those groups it's on more of a case by case basis.

Anyway, I'm bored of that now, and there's a meme going around.

Give me a character and I will tell you...

* How I feel about this character
* All the people I ship romantically with this character
* My non-romantic OTP for this character
* My unpopular opinion about this character
* One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
* Something about them I consider true, even though it's only my head canon/fanon

For the anxious insomniac who's up at four-thirty in the morning in your life :-)

END OF YEAR FEEDBACK MEME
my thread here
netgirl_y2k: (cersei fuck)
In other news, something has fallen from the sky and smashed up my car. I went out yesterday to find the front of it all bashed about. And the bumper hasn't a scratch, so it's not like someone's crashed into me and fucked off, it's the bonnet and the windscreen like something's landed on it; until confirmed otherwise, I'm choosing to believe that it was a cow.

It must have happened during the storms we had in the week, but mine's the only car to be damaged. Just my bloody luck, eh? And the body shop can't look at it for five days because they've got a storm related backlog. Okay, it's possible when I say that mine was the only vehicle damaged I'm overstating, and what I mean is... next door's car isn't damaged, and they bought their thirteen year old son a drum kit, surely they're overdue for an act of god! It isn't fair!

Drat. I hope it's repairable; it's such a good car, but it's getting on a bit, and I don't imagine the insurance money would amount to much if it's a write-off.

In cheerier news, a box grater that I was convinced I'd lost turned up today in the potato cupboard (yes, I have a cupboard where I only keep potatoes, as is right and normal). Excellent, I'd been grating parmesan with a speed peeler, which can't have been good for my arteries.

And, finally, because I am an unreasonable soul who under the circumstances does not consider the return of a mislaid kitchen implement to be quite enough: My Thread on today's love meme.

I am super excited about [community profile] femslashex (femslash12 under new management.)

I feel about the femslash ficathon the way a lot of people feel about yuletide, that it's a quintessential part of the fannish year. I've even built a little tradition around it:

Give me any femslash pairing and I will write you a ficlet or drabble for it.

Any fandom you've heard me mention, basically.
netgirl_y2k: (Default)
-From time to time I regret my inability to get together with tumblr as a fannish platform, none more so than today for reblogging purposes, because someone made the most fabulous graphic of my Sansa/Myrcella fic.

And not so long ago someone drew fanart of one of my Sansa/Margaery fics, look at them snuggle!

Because I am awkward and crap at talking to people, I often forget how interactive fandom can be, and how cool that is.

-Today I have been thoroughly delighted by this O'Brien/Bashir vid and have been overcome with the desire to re-watch all of DS9, at once.

-I find the A03 statistics page compelling and distressing in equal measure, but it has given rise to a whole host of new memes that AO3 stats meme that's been doing the rounds )
netgirl_y2k: (bo & Kenzi huh)
I am back at my mum's for a while because there are simultaneously more builders and fewer walls that I ideally like at my place.

It's weird being back, like, the first two or three days are nice when you're being looked after and treated like the prodigal returning daughter (even though I've prodigally returned from five miles down the road, and, frankly, I'm here most days anyway, in search of food and teabags and the faster wi-fi) but after that it's weird how quickly you regress to how it was when you were, say fifteen, hiding out in your room and venturing out periodically for tea and cheese on toast, like a very tall, very female hobbit.

So, I find myself in need of diversion, and the DVD commentary meme was always pleasingly self-indulgent and time consuming.

Pick a story I've written, and comment to this post with it. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that fic: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

Having returned from my impromptu German sojourn I plan to spent the day by turns unpacking, doing the washing, and catching up on the DW, Elementary, and OUaT finales. Also, doing what appears to be a happy little meme:

I currently have 147 works archived at the AO3. Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) to 147 (the first thing I posted there), and I’ll tell you three things I currently like about it.
netgirl_y2k: (Default)
The AO3 stats meme is doing the rounds again and, eh, I like statistics and self-indulgence just as much as the next girl.

Fic by hit count and kudos )

Self Indulgent Musings )

Okay, so that was a pretty long post to say here are some statistics and I don't really know what they mean. Procrastination accomplished, I guess.

Whee! After a comprehensive strike of several months I seem to have regained use of my writing brain. So I am celebrating by spending an exciting Friday evening actually making progress on an exchange fic that's been taunting me. You know, it occurs to me that for a character with three dragons, a massive army, and an important destiny type thing to be cracking on with halfway around the world, Daenerys Targaryen is a ridiculously passive character. Do something, woman! Just do something!

I am also celebrating with tea and this meme.

Give me a number and I'll answer the question. (You can ask for a specific fandom or story, or just in general):

1. Which is your favorite of the fics you’ve written for [name of fandom]?
2. Favorite piece overall?
3. Which was the hardest to write, in terms of plot?
4. Which has the most “you” in it, however you’d define that?
5. What is an image/set of images that you’re particularly proud of?
6. Idea that you always wanted to write but could never make work?
7. Least favorite plot point/chapter/moment?
8. Favorite plot point/chapter/moment?
9. Favorite character to write?
10. Favorite line or lines of dialogue that you’ve written
11. If I’m showing off just one of your pieces to someone, which one should it be?
12. What WIPs do you have going now? Are you excited about them?
13. Are there any things that might have happened in any of your stories, but you changed them at the last minute? (So-and-so dies, they don’t actually kiss, main character has long extended ballet-based dream sequence, etc.)
14. Would you want to write canon for any of your fandoms (like be hired by showrunner to do an episode)? Which one?
15. Does font matter to you when you’re writing a draft?
16. 3 favorite comments ever received on fanfic.
17. Any mean comments? How’d you deal with it? Who laid the smackdown?
18. If you could go back and revise one of your older stories, which would it be?
19. Do you make up scenes at work/on the bus/at the gym? Who are the characters that pop up the most? Do you write them down?
20. Go nuts, and talk about writing. Or write me a little ficlet-whatsit using a character/image/line I shall now specify—

"There is sludge in your boiler."

"The good kind of sludge, right? The kind where I don't have to do anything about it?"

Hint: it was not the good kind of sludge.

I'm stuck in all day waiting for men to come round and, well, overcharge me for a new boiler, so here is a meme to pass the time.

"Ask Me Questions About Stuff I've Written" meme:

Questions can be along the lines of "What were you thinking when you wrote this?" or along the lines of "What happened to these characters five years later?" or if you don't want to ask a question you can just quote a few lines from something I've written and I'll comment on them.

Because I have been blocked like a blocked thing and I am trying to get back into the habit of fic writing before the [livejournal.com profile] rarewomen assignments come down...

Tell me about stories you think I should write. I mean, if you could sit me down for a day or whatever and say, "Ok, I want you to write this story for me," what would that story be?

I'm not actually promising to *write* any of these, mind you, but it's fun anyway. And who knows if I'll be inspired!

I do very much like the idea of the words and deeds love meme

Leave a comment with your, or anyone else's, username in the subject and body. Once someone has a comment thread about them, leave a comment and tell them about something they've done or made that you liked. A kind word, a signalboost, a drawing, a story. This can be short or long. You can just name or link to something, or go into more detail.

I tripped over the dog coming down the stairs yesterday morning and have done something unwise to my ankle. I also landed on the dog, so he's having a bit of a sulk and ignoring me. Still in full on Yay Christmas! mode, though.

Anyway as I'm laid up and doing end-of year round up posts anyway, that meme where you talk about the fic you wrote through the year.

2012 in Fic: 41,000 words across 27 fics in five fandoms. Jeepers. )

Questions! )

I have solved the problem of my inability to wrap Christmas presents. Solution, buy bottle shaped bags, then buy bag shaped bottles; introduce the two.

Oh, and just so you know, from now until New Year is probably just going to be year's end round up posts.

Fandom in 2012 meme )
netgirl_y2k: (Gwen Beer)
There have been a few posts I've been meaning to make, briefly:

1. I got first refusal of anything I wanted of my grandmother's, and I lurched wildly between feeling like the Rat Queen of Rats and going, Ooh, lamp.

2. I keep meaning to thank [personal profile] ravurian for reccing the Felix Castor series to me (Thankee!) because I have become slightly addicted to them over the past few weeks. I know there's no fandom, but, really, there should be, and it should be writing me all of the fic about the inner workings of Juliet and Susan's relationship. Because, seriously, I can't be the only person who has their buttons pushed by the lesbian relationship between a church warden and a succubus. I mean, for one thing, what was their wedding like?

3. I have been liking Doctor Who S7 very much, even more than that I have liked being excited about Doctor Who again. Even if A Town Called Mercy was more serviceable than brilliant, it was extremely watchable, and I absolutely adored that reference to Amy being a mother. See, Series 6, this was what I wanted, not entire episodes devoted to it, just the occasional acknowledgement that it had actually happened, you know? Anyhow, next week looks awesome.

Anyway, as I'm not making of those posts, the promised meme

Pick a trope from this list and provide a fandom/pairing that I'm familiar with, and I'll tell you something about the story I'd write for that combination (i.e. write a snippet from the story or write not!fic or tell you the title and summary for the story I would write)

1. genderswap
2. bodyswap
3. drunk!fic
4. huddling for warmth
5. what-if AU
6. fuck or die
7. amnesia
8. cross-dressing
9. forced to share a bed
10. truth or dare
11. Hogwarts
12. supernatural
13. apocalypse
14. Westeros
15. High School / College

Um, I switched out a bunch for tropes I'm more interested in, so, um, yeah.
