I read somewhere that it's a good idea, when you're just getting into writing in a new fandom, to start with teeny-tiny little fics. Thus, a meme, using GoT/ASOIAF characters.

1. Write down the names of 10 characters.
2. Write a fic of twenty words or less for every prompt, using the characters determined by the numbers. Do NOT read the prompts before you do step 1.

I have decided what I hate most about writing - other than the bits that involve thinking about words or writing them down, those totally suck - the bit I hate most is thinking of titles.

I should just call everything Untitled Femslash No. 17, even the things that aren't femslash.

How do you come up with titles, O wise f-list?

I hate getting upset, I also hate the top post in my journal being me being upset because that makes it that much harder to pretend that I am a laid back, practically zen individual who never ever gets upset. So with that aim in mind here is a fun meme which I have snerched from sophinisba where you post your top ten fics by their AO3 hitcounts and then navel gaze about why that is. Fun all round. Although possibly more for me than you.

1. There is apparently a heatwave down south, it hasn't reached this far north, at least not the heat part, but there is a glowy yellow thing in the sky, I feel we should either worship it or destroy it.

2. So I'm crossposting from dreamwidth now, as that's the way the wind seems to be blowing. I had been using my DW as a fic journal and I'm torn between using one of my invite codes to create another one or going, sod it, it's all up on the AO3 anyway. I am leaning towards the second option for reasons of excessive laziness.

2a. I will probably go on a bit of an adding people spree so as to have something to read over here. So if I suddenly add you please do not be alarmed, I am completely housebroken. Relatedly, although I'll probably still be on LJ the majority of the time, if anyone would prefer I read them on DW just give the word.

3. I have been having fannish thoughts. Does anyone else have couples, usually canon ones for me, that you just can't read or write paired with anyone else? My big one is Gwen/Rhys in Torchwood. My desire to read all the Gwen fic in the world bumps up against the fact that a Gwen without a Rhys just doesn't scan in my head. I'm sort of the same with Richard/Kahlan in Legend of the Seeker, although I get round that one because I think Richard is such a big, dumb puppy (and I say that with love) that as long as Kahlan was happy he'd be happy. I'm sort becoming the same with Nina/George in Being Human. I've been thinking about this because I'm working on a fic that pairs Nina with someone else and I need to get George out of the way. My first idea was to make it an AU from the end of S1 and kill him off in the fight with Herrick. But that reminds me a lot of that thing that you see a lot in slash fics, which is sexist and rubbish and I hate it, where the canon girlfriend is killed off out of hand so the boys can get together. I mean I could always just go "George was on holiday in Scotland at the time. Also, he's fine with it." I dunno.

Although Annie appears to be turning into one of my One True Characters (like Donna or Morgana) who I will cheerfully ship with anything that moves.
