I have watched Doctor Who. Twice. And I have managed to construct some thoughts more in depth than: eeeeeeeeeeeee!

I don't really have much to say about The Almost People in which I proceed to say stuff about The Almost People )

Oh, and allow me to interrupt my habitual pretending Merlin doesn't exist to rec you Antebellum a gorgeous, gorgeous Gwen/Morgana vid by [personal profile] such_heights who manages to do more justice to the girls relationship in four and a half minutes than the show managed in thirty odd episodes, and that is because she is suprememely talented and excellent like that.

I missed Doctor Who this evening as I was in a whisky bar in Edinburgh with Tequila Boy for belated birthday celebrations/eurovision avoidance. Yes, there are whisky bars in Glasgow but the one we like in Edinburgh has a menu with the prices written on it which saves us the awkwardness of standing at the bar, pointing out a promising looking bottle, ordering two drams and then saying, "I'm sorry? How much...? Could you possibly hold on while I just step outside and sell an organ." The menu also has hilarious little descriptions of what each whisky is supposed to taste of, which are lies. One of them is apparently supposed to taste of medicinal seaweed and iodine, we didn't order that one just on the off chance that the description was true.

Anyway, I wasn't that bothered by the prospect of missing Doctor Who because I'm indifferent to irked by Neil Gaiman's writing usually, and so far I have found S5/6 very hit and miss with me, but, I have just watched The Doctor's Wife on iplayer and: THAT WAS THE MOST PERFECT EPISODE OF DOCTOR WHO THERE HAS EVER BEEN OR PROBABLY WILL EVER BE. THANK YOU. GOODNIGHT.

Okay, It's silly o'clock and I have been drinking so while I assure you that we will discuss the many, many awesome things about this episode, at length, at the moment I shall restrict myself to two brief spoilery exclamations )

I have spent much of the last few days in front of BBC news watching Liberal Democrats look as though they are about to burst into tears. So, that's been fun. Post-election I am also feeling quite good about being Scottish, despite the place being depressingly damp, lacking in a decent rugby team and largely inhabited by other Scottish people. The SNPs trouncing of all comers does mean that at some point over the next five years I will have to decide what I actually think about independence. It's not that I don't have thoughts about Scottish independence, I have many opinions and all of them are contradictory and bound up in identity politics and currently quite hard to separate from how much I hate the Westminster coalition.

Speaking of referendums, AV got decisively beaten, which is-- It's sad that the possibility of any kind of electoral reform has probably been tabled for a generation or so, but it's hard to care too much as despite my best efforts I found it nearly impossible to muster a single opinion about AV versus FPTP.

Anyway, enough of that, let's talk about Doctor Who.

Okay, I know I said I wasn't going to quibble about tonight's Doctor Who, but this is nagging at me...

I wasn't going to comment on The Impossible Astronaut because I think it's quite hard to comment on only half a two parter. Also, did everyone else know they were opening the series with a two parter? Because I didn't and spent much of last night going "What? What! What?!" in a manner totally inappropriate to the Era of Moff 'n' Smith. But I've just been re-watching it and I have to say...

Spoilers! )
