Can't Sleep.
Dec. 14th, 2011 01:12 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Distracting myself from my inability to sleep by writing fic. Well, failing to write fic. Admittedly, I think part of the problem with that is that I am trying to write two fics at once. One is a future history of the Queens of Westeros, featuring all the queens, future queens, and could-have-been queens in a sort of intertwined series of AUs, and the other is a supremely ridiculous Merlin/Warehouse 13 fusion featuring Gwen and Morgana as slightly rubbish Warehouse agents, and I suspect the change in tone as I switch between them is proving somewhat jarring.
So, a meme to distract me from my inability to perform even these seemingly basic tasks. Why, yes, I am using you all as an aid to insomnia.

Date: 2011-12-14 04:51 am (UTC)Least Favorite character(s): I don't actively dislike them, but I could live without the Jack and Rebecca episodes.
Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Myka/HG... and that's basically it, I'm all abou the gen and found family with this.
Character(s) I find most attractive: Have you seen Myka?
A random thought: I wish that I was more surprised that the show didn't have a bigger fandom.
An unpopular opinion: I don't even know what an unpopular opinion for this show might be, because I am relentlessly positive on all of it, but I have just watched the x-mas special and love Pete Lattimer and wish to lick parts of him. Will that do.
Canon OTP(s): Myka/HG
Non-canon OTP(s): Myka/HG, I am hedging my bets, see?
Most badass character(s): MRS. FREDERICK.
Pairing(s) I am not a fan of: You know, I actually feel like I could get behind any pairing for this show so long as it was written well.
Character(s) I feel the writers screwed over: I don't feel like she's been screwed over out of racism, or sexism, or terrible writing in the way we usually mean, but I do feel like the writers don't really know what to do with Leena.
Favourite friendship(s): Pete & Myka, Claudia & Jinksy. There are many things I love about this show, but maybe my favourite is how it shows and prioritises best friend relationships.
Character(s) I want to adopt or be adopted by: Artie. I could be Claudia's adopted sister.

Date: 2011-12-14 03:59 am (UTC)Least Favorite character(s): Joffrey, Drogo, Tywin
Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Cat/Ned, Jaime/Brienne, Sansa/being queen of shit, Sansa/any woman. Seriously, I'm kind of in love with the idea of Sansa, who was brought up internalising the idea that the best she could be was price charming's wife, and who, let's face it, would be a kickass political wife suddenly realising she'd been overcompensating wildly and going Oh, Oh,, that makes so much more sense. Seriously, Dany, Margaery, Asha, Brienne, I ship it.
Character(s) I find most attractive: Asha. Awesome axe wielding pirate chick. Yes, please!
A random thought: I want two things from the series Sansa=queen of stuff, and Theon getting violent retribution on those who wronged him. Everything else is negociable.
An unpopular opinion: I fucking hate the way Tyrion made Tysha's gang rape all about him. Fucking hate.
Canon OTP(s): Ned/Cat. I love my Starks!
Non-canon OTP(s): Sansa/being queen. Am I a bit stuck on this, do you think?
Most badass character(s): Dany. The dragons probably help.
Pairing(s) I am not a fan of: Jon/Robb. Look, I'm really gay and even I think Richard Madden is an insanely beautiful man, but I kind of feel like Robb/Jon is a example of "let is ship any two beautiful men who appear onscreen together" thing writ large. Dany/Drogo. That it shook out well for Dany in the end does not mean that this was not slavery and rape.
Character(s) I feel the writers screwed over: Cersei Lannister. I feel like Cersei was really screwed over by not getting pov chapters at the same time as Jaime, because by the time we get to see inside her head she's just lost her son, her father and her brother in quick succession, and she's spiralling dramatically out of control. And the thing is, I don't think that Cersei's always been a bibbling idiot, she wouldn't have survived this long is she was, but that's how it seems.
Favourite friendship(s): Arya & Jon. I loved that friendship, I would have loved to have seen Sansa having a similar close relationship with one of her brothers.
Character(s) I want to adopt or be adopted by: The Starks. Well, whichever of them are alive at the end.

Date: 2011-12-14 10:16 pm (UTC)Least Favorite character(s): I feel terrible for saying this, but River Song. I love many of the ideas of the character, and I love Alex Kingston's performance, but a character who's main storyline is her choice whether to turn her inescapable obsession with the male lead into love or hate, who is basically, literally fridged when offscreen, that hit so many of my Do Not Want and Also, Ick buttons that I just can't...
Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Amy/Rory, Rose/Mickey, Ten/Donna in a hilarious Donna thinking some excellent sex might be good for the Doctor way.
Character(s) I find most attractive: Weirdly, I'd been seeing Catherine Tate for years, she was on British telly all the damn time and I'd never thought of her in that way, then she was on Doctor Who and it was like, Wow, breasts...
A random thought: Steven Moffat is a truly brilliant writer of individual episodes, and an awful, awful showrunner.
An unpopular opinion: I could cheerfully never see River or the Ponds again, I hope Moffat decides to do Sherlock full time, and I would love to see how Smith plays the Doctor when not surrounded by things that I mostly hate.
Canon OTP(s): Doctor/TARDIS. For all my ranting above, The Doctor's Wife is the finest episode of Doctor Who ever.
Non-canon OTP(s): Donna/Rose, Thank you, Turn Left
Most badass character(s): The Doctor.
Pairing(s) I am not a fan of: Ten/Rose, which was less to do with the pairing itself and more to do with how I don't like Doctor/companion pairings and that, I thought, came dangerously close to making one canon. Eleven/River, for all the reasons I was talking about above re: River's characterisation, she imprinted on him, indifference was never an option, that's incredibly skeevey to me. Not to mention that I have major issues with any man who speaks to any woman the way the Doctor spoke to River in The Wedding of River Song. Um, this may play into my Go Away, Moffat issues.
Character(s) I feel the writers screwed over: MARTHA, and to a lesser extent Donna, which is another reason I don't like the Ten/Rose relationship, it became, to me, the plot that Would Not Die, and didn't give the successive companions a fair shake.
Favourite friendship(s): Ten & Donna. Best Friends in Space. I would have watched ten series of this show.
Character(s) I want to adopt or be adopted by: WILFRED MOTT. OH YES.

Date: 2011-12-18 12:50 am (UTC)Favorite character(s): Morgana. I can't explain it, even really to myself anymore. She's one of those characters who's gotten into my id and I can never not love. I actually wish I had slightly fewer ~feelings about her, because she's the reason I'm still on the periphery of Merlin fandom even though I hate 80% of what the show chooses to be. Although, I do actually think there's something tragically fascinating about the way Morgana is thrown under the wheels of the boys' great future. Arthur & Merlin are blessed by destiny, Morgana is doomed by it, and that breaks my heart. There's also that Katie McGrath is pretty easy to look at and there was that bit where she got into a sword fight in her underwear...
Least Favorite character(s): The usual suspects: the dragon, Gaius, but mostly, MERLIN. I don't believe it's possible to physically hate a fictional character, but if I could it would be Merlin, who is the WORST. Actually, that's not true, Merlin in and of himself is a fascinating character, he's ridiculously brave, insanely loyal to Arthur and he loves his mum, but he's also violent and ruthless, lies as easily as he breathes, and has no moral compass outside of his overwhelming obsession with Arthur. And on a smarter show Merlin would be a fascinating, multi-layered character. Really, he belongs in King's Landing apprenticed to Littlefinger. But he's on Merlin, where the tone is much more simplistic and MERLIN IS A HERO. MERLIN IS ALWAYS RIGHT. NO. DON'T THINK ABOUT IT. YOU'LL ONLY HURT YOUR PRETTY LITTLE HEAD.
Which just leaves me scratching my head and going, Who, him? The creepy guy?
Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Morgana/Morgause, Gwen/Morgana, Arthur/Gwen, Morgana/Nimueh, Arthur & Morgana sibling relationship.
Character(s) I find most attractive: Morgana. No question.
A random thought: I wish Arthur were the protagonist. Or Morgana.
An unpopular opinion: I don't think I've actually met another fan who dislikes Merlin as a character, so that's probably pretty unpopular.
Canon OTP(s): Arthur/Gwen
Non-canon OTP(s): Morgana/Morgause
Most badass character(s): Probably, objectively Merlin. But I'm going to say Morgana, she's just so angry all of time.
Pairing(s) I am not a fan of: Merlin/Arthur. Admittedly, I've never actively shipped it, boyslash not being my thing, but I could absolutely see why everybody else did and why it was the big OTP of fandom. But over the last couple of series I've come to find Arthur's bullying of Merlin unattractive, and Merlin's lies, manipulations and obsession kind of creepy.
Character(s) I feel the writers screwed over: Um, how about ALL OF THEM. Seriously, I'm pretty sure the writers don't intend to have Merlin come across as Stalker McCreepy Guy but he does. Arthur's shining moments are undercut as he lurches wildly between being King of Prats and the Once and Future Sockpuppet. Bless Angel Coulby, she is lovely and really trying, but she doesn't have much to work with. But I am going to have to go with Morgana for exactly how much apathy, sexism, and dreadful writing they managed to cram into the Morgana-goes-evil arc. Sometimes there's a plotline I don't care for in a show I'm watching and I'll say "I could have written that better" and I don't really mean it, it's the equivalent of shouting "I could have scored that goal" at premier league footballers from the couch. But with Morgana's S2-S3 storyline I really do feel like I could have written it better, which isn't saying much, a drunk monkey with a typewriter could have written it better.
Favourite friendship(s): In S1 all variations of the OT4. Post that, um, I suppose Gwen & Merlin are the only ones that have any kind of normal and healthy friendship, but I can't really appreciate it because of my, you know, violent allergy to Merlin.
Character(s) I want to adopt or be adopted by: None of them, really. Although, I do frequently wish to squirrel Gwen and Morgana away to a less woman hostile canon.

Ugh, that show, why did you make me love Morgana so much? It only brought my heart pain.
