It is getting decidedly chilly here and I am not remotely prepared for it - as you can possibly tell from the fact that I am wearing fingerless, elbow-length wollen gloves with a sleeveless top with pink mockingbirds on it. Yes, I look ridiculous, but it also means I can freak people out by saying "winter is coming" in my most ominous tone.

I have just finished Goliath the last book in Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan trilogy, which have been the most perfect books I have read this year. Deryn Sharp owns my soul. I wonder if it's going be a Yuletide fandom - it's getting to be that time of year, isn't it? - because I crave the further adventures of Deryn, Alek and Dr Barlow.

I have worked out one thing I don't like about having a kindle. Since I got him addicted to Game of Thrones Tequila Boy has been borrowing the books from me, and it took until he finished A Feast for Crows for me to realise that I only have A Dance With Dragons as a kindle book and couldn't just loan it out. And because it's Tequila Boy, and because I know he's a careful guy and it's not like I don't have a hip-high pile of unread paperbacks to tide me over, I just loaned him my kindle to read it on. Still. It kind of sucks that I can't loan my best friend a book that I own without giving him an expensive gadget and two thirds of my library at the same time.
