I watched Doctor Who last night and didn't post about it, because mostly I didn't know what I thought, I still don't but that's never stopped me before...

-Well... that was made of fanservice and a mostly nonsense plot. Obviously, I liked it a lot.

-I particularly liked that they did a Hitler episode in the only way that wouldn't offend almost everyone, by sticking Hitler in a cupboard in the first ten minutes and forgetting all about him.

-Mels was very seriously pasted on and I'm feeling slightly vindicated over here in my belief that Moff is making all this up as he goes along. Although, I will forgive almost everything for that moment of utter glee when she regenerated into Alex Kingston.

-Most of the episode was a big giant regeneration scene and I am easy for those. I liked how brand new River seemed and how much fun Alex Kingston looked to be having playing shiny new River. I loved the whole "the hair, it just doesn't stop" and "I'm going to wear lots of jodhpurs." And the "spoilers" and "River Song, stupid name" stuff was well done.

-I also like how there was an episode of Star Trek happening in the background. With robots.

-I am a teeny bit miffed at how River gave up all her future regenerations for the Doctor, even though I knew something like that would happen otherwise the library episodes don't make sense. Also, if pushed I could take issue with the I'm looking for a good man bit at the end, but that's more a longer term issue with how River's entire identity seems to have been subsumed into the Doctor.

-Wee!Amelia. Fish fingers and custard. Let's run away and have adventures! YES!

-So. Have the Ponds given up on finding baby Melody then? Is the plan just to hope River makes the best of it from here on in? Because that seems oddly heartless, and also plays into my thing of crossness where the Doctor has this trail of broken women strewn behind him.

-OH! I have thought of other things I liked...

-The TARDIS taught River how to fly her. Child of the TARDIS, FTW!

-If the library episodes taught us anything it's that River Song is made of stories, right? Well, I really like the idea that Melody makes herself River Song out of these scraps of of stories she hears about River.

So that was an episode of fun and yay with some troubling meta stuff going on if you think about it too deeply, which is why I'm not going to.

Now I am going to spend the rest of the day finishing the latest Dresden Files book, which has only taken a mere 400 pages to get interesting. Er, yay?

Any episode with Wee!Amelia is automatically brilliant. It's a law or something :-D

This I completely, totally and utterly loved.

There was speculation going on over on Tumblr, that something or other happened in that "fish fingers and custard" bit before the Doctor changed into his tuxedo. Apparently there's a disappearing corsage and then safety pins visible on his jacket in LKH that suggests he went and used up his half hour at Amy and Rory's wedding or something like that.

The comparison being made is actually to the disappearing/reappearing jacket in the angels two-parter ep last season that turned out to indeed signify a Doctor who wasn't at the same chronological place as the last Doctor we'd seen onscreen. And I do suspect that "fish fingers and custard" is going to turn out to be an important clue.

More wee!Amelia would be lovely, yes.

Sorry Moffat isn't giving you what you want from DW. Glad you at least like bits of each ep.
