I woke up this morning to discover that for the first time in my life I have a Tory MP *sign of the cross* because my awful, awful SNP MP has defected.
Now, what might cause someone to defect from a party whose raison d'etre is the pursuit of Scottish Independence to one which thinks that support for Independence is borderline treason? Perhaps, it was a true damascene conversion, a come to Jesus moment. Or perhaps it was that she was on the eve of being overwhelmingly deselected because she's a dogshit person with terrible opinions and everyone hates her.
The second one. It was the second one.
In addition to her shite smeared opinions, she was also a terrible Nationalist. She voted against abortion rights in Northern Ireland, as though a self-proclaimed Nationalist had any business in the uteruses of people in another part of the UK. And when the Scottish Government tried to make life marginally less shit for trans people she asked the Westminster Government to stop us. Just A+ Nationalisting, Good job, everyone.
This is, of course, another symptom of the ongoing civil war in the SNP between people who want independence to better pursue the sort of squishy social democratic policies that we like, and the social conservatives who the previous leadership had ball gagged and menaced with cattle prods into compliance.
And just to nail my colours to the mast, I think we should have tazed the reactionaries harder when we had the upper hand, because clearly Lisa Cameron (soon to be former Conservative) MP and I were never envisioning the same kind of independent Scotland. Good riddance to bad fucking rubbish, I guess.
Anyway.
femslashex sign ups are open, and I'm going to sign up and so should you.

Date: 2023-10-13 02:45 pm (UTC)P.S. I'm reading a so-bad-it's-funny 1961 romance novel set during a Latin American coup and our hot revolutionary bad boy Ramon Quintero was educated at the University of Glasgow.
Scotland: educating hot revolutionaries since the 18th century.

More seriously, I don't know how you can claim to be doing the job of a constituency MP when you are in hiding from your constituents.
