You know, I kind of admire Nicola Sturgeon more now that it's come to light that not only was she the entire Scottish government, but that she was doing it while stood atop a bag of live rats.
Why, yes, I am going to insert my Scottish politics opinions onto the top of posts about other things.
I wrote a fic!
Memento Mori (Interlude) (ST:DS9; Jadzia Dax/Lenara Khan)
“Promise me you won’t die,” Lenara pleaded.
Jadzia couldn’t promise that, instead she said, “Marry me?”
Or,
Lenara Kahn changes her mind.
Most Star Trek one episode love interests are shit, some you're still thinking about twenty years later.
Speaking of Star Trek, and I am speaking as one of the three people willing to admit that they liked S2 of Picard, but I pretty much hate S3 so far...
Okay, part of it that TNG is not my Star Trek happy place (that's DS9 and Voyager) so while I smiled to see Beverly and Worf, and a lot of Picard and Riker's banter was delightful, it's not enough to make me overlook what's not working for me.
Secret biological child is not a storyline that has ever worked for me, so I was probably never going to love that, but seasons two and three were filmed back to back, so it's weird that S2E10 was 'Jean Luc, you have to leave your past in the past and move forward with the people that are in front of you' and S3E01 was 'nvm, your past just called and she has a Large Adult Son.' Like, just Star Wars sequels level of disregard for thematic consistency.
I wanted to like Seven in Starfleet, but I just don't. It's pretty much the least interesting thing you could do with that character, or maybe I just really liked queer vigilante Seven.
Raffi's storyline is the most promising, although it's pretty much siloed away from everything else so far, and I like that they're finally dealing with her being an addict. I'm irked that two episodes in and we don't know if she and Seven are still together or have broken up or if the show's just dropped that thread. Like, either commit to that relationship or don't, but it's like schrodinger's ship right now.
During the first two of seasons of Picard the arc of the discourse seemed to go that people liked the first couple of episodes and then grew increasingly baffled and angry as the season went on, so I'm hoping that the opposite holds true for me, and it retroactively works, but I'm not super optimistic.

Date: 2023-02-25 03:15 pm (UTC)I find Raffi's storyline interesting too but I'm unsure if they'll handle it well and, like you, I'm annoyed that it's so unclear what's going on with her and Seven's relationship, especially since we've gotten so little of them as an actual couple who are acting like they love each other rather than fighting.

Date: 2023-02-25 06:54 pm (UTC)I wouldn't even mind if it felt like they were deliberately writing Seven and Raffi as having a volatile, on again, off again relationship. But it feels more like they just don't care about it. I mean, I'm invested in their relationship I think, mostly, because I'm invested in Seven not being straight, but if pushed I'm not even sure I could tell you what it is they like about each other.
