...I am experiencing the disconcerting feeling that the last grown up just turned the lights off as she left.

Also, I've had to turn the news off because Fucking Salmond keeps popping up, and if I were the leader of a party that couldn't get someone elected dogcatcher I would simply conclude that my input was not called for at this time.

*this is a niche post

Forgive the ignorance, but do we have any thoughts on two party leaders having surnames that refer to fish? I was really confused by the post until it said 'leader of a party' and realized who you were talking about. Are fish surnames common in Scotland?

It’s about Wales, not Scotland, but this question compelled me to share one of my favorite short films: https://vimeo.com/220461263

Having followed British news now and then, I have to agree. (Erase paragraph of appalled vituperation about recent politicians. Not that a U.S.ian has any standing to judge.) Hoping the best for the future of Scotland, whatever that might be.

From a purely personal perspective as a trans woman in the UK, her leaving power at this particular point is fairly frightening. The SNP under her leadership was the only major political party willing to do anything for trans folk, as opposed to the Tories (gleefully transphobic) and Labour (maybe we should come to a compromise between trans folk and the bigots, and only take away some rights). Given the specifics of the latest controversy, I really hope this doesn't result in the next leader of the SNP deciding that trans rights aren't worth defending. (Assuming the open transphobe doesn't win the leadership contest.)

All the best!

It's not great. I may have almost broken down a little when I had my year end review a few weeks ago and my manager asked me the fateful question 'So is everything alright generally?' Thankfully on a local level, I haven't had any problems yet, so... At least it's just the oppressive governmental and media pressure at the moment?

Sigh. It was really nice to have a part of the UK that felt like it didn't hold my existence in contempt. Fingers crossed that continues.

And thanks. Thoughts always help. :)
