I remember being very excited about the idea of a female character centric remix back when it was first mooted a couple of years ago, and I am even more excited now that it's actually happening.

Sign-ups are open through Friday, and you only need to have written three 500+ words fics per fandom that are either about a female character or could be remixed to be so. I meet those qualifications in, ahem, a number of fandoms.
The only reason I haven't signed up yet is that I'm thinking of knocking out a quick Agent Carter ficlet or two in order to sign up with that... if anyone has any Agent Carter prompts that they'd like to see dashed off?
It's worth mentioning that I have had some awesome writing experiences remixing folks who write mainly slash, even if my first instinct is to scroll through looking for a fic about a female character to remix. But I'm more leery of being assigned to someone who wants to remix slash and having them go: oh, shite, not her, especially in fandoms like Merlin, where the assumption that your remixee will write predominately dudes is not unreasonable. That shouldn't happen this time; at least, not for that reason.

Date: 2015-06-16 08:10 am (UTC)I don't think I could write this by Friday, because I suspect it might spiral well beyond anything that could be described as a ficlet. But, yeah, in London with Angie as a USO girl turned agent, and Peggy as former Bletchley Park codebreaker turned terrible waitress, a la The Bletchley Circle.
Very inspiring; thank you!

Date: 2015-06-16 08:19 am (UTC)Ahem, yeah, picking a fic to remix is a weird thing, and I think sometimes the unlikeliest fics make for the best remixes. I ended up defaulting this year because I matched with someone who writes a pairing I didn't feel qualified to tackle, not one I necessarily dislike, but about who I have nothing to say. It was college AUs and the like as well, which are hard to remix when you don't have a strong sense of the canon versions of the characters. Excuses, excuses; I must try to do better this time.

Date: 2015-06-20 10:52 pm (UTC)Ooh, genderbending would have been such an interesting approach to a remix; I don't think I've ever seen that done before.
I ended up dropping out of the other remix; partly because I realised I hadn't played it safe enough and my fic no longer bore any relation to the story it was meant to be a remix of, and partly because I was still holding a grudge about my remixee fudging their eligibility requirements in the fandom we matched on. It was like watching The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, no matter how many different ways I counted I wasn't hitting five. I do have high hopes for this one, though!

Date: 2015-06-21 01:39 am (UTC)I don't know if genderbending is technically allowed in remixes, to be honest, but it seems like it could be a really interesting way to change a story without necessarily changing its basic framework? I don't know. But I'm certainly curious to see what I end up with for this exchange. That is a shame about your remixee--I only shared one fandom with mine, but thankfully all the stories she wrote were utterly amazing. My favourite was the one I actually didn't choose to remix, primarily because until yesterday I couldn't even think of a way to do it, but I'm reasonably happy with what I came up with.
