Well, all in all, I though the first half of series 7 was a success. The blockbuster approach to individual episodes really worked for me, I finally, finally warmed to the Ponds, and simply by virtue of not trying to shoe-horn in an unworkable arc it solved a lot of the problems I'd had with S6.

And that's basically how I felt about tonight: squee, with caveats.

The squee
-The angels having a food farm in that hotel was creepy as fuck; ditto the baby angels.
-The Statue of Liberty being an angel was one of those things so patently ridiculous that it looped all the way back round to really quite cool.
-River was cooler to me than she has been in a long time, loved Melody Malone and her writing the book and sending it back to Amy to be published. So, I'm assuming they can still see each other, I do hope so.
-"Together or not at all," that scene tugged at the heartstrings, I sniffled.
-"When don't I come back to life?" Yay, continuity!
-Loved Amy's farewell to River, calling her Melody and telling her to be good, and Alex Kingston nailed that scene.

The Caveats
-Not getting to see Amy & Rory's reunion in the past.
-Actually, the whole thing fell a wee bit flat because as soon as they announced that their final episode was going to be a weeping angels one you could guess that they were going to get zapped into the past.
-It's my own fault, really, because I'd spent most of the last week convincing myself that the Ponds were going to get zapped back to the point where little Melody was regenerating in New York and that they were going to get to be a family.
-Endlessly bitter about how that plot was resolved, tbh, or wasn't resolved.
-And the Doctor/River relationship continues to be fucked beyond all possible unfucking. "Don't let him see the damage, don't let him see you age." :\
