May the Fourth Be With You

I usually try to take my birthday as a day off, but this year's Star Wars Day kind of crept up on me so I forgot to ask until it was so late that the answer was only ever going to be incredulous laughter.

The good thing about working on my birthday was the residents who ushered me into their rooms in order to offer me a swig out of a half bottle of something they had squirrelled away. I think they might be running a speakeasy behind our backs.

After I clocked off I accepted one (1) brandy, although the aged are generous with their pours so it was quite a large brandy. I'm not even forty till next year and quite sanguine about my approaching middle years, but I had thought that marking the day with a splash of contraband brandy in a plastic teacup was a few years off at least.

My folks picked me up from work to take me out for a birthday curry, where I had to institute a no Boris Johnson talk at the dinner table. And now I'm going to crack open a beer and watch a couple of episodes of Picard cuddled up on the couch with the dog.
