How's Your Christmas Week Going?
Dec. 28th, 2021 09:30 pm...I actually did manage to have a nice Christmas morning with my family. Came home from work, and went straight over to my parents house for fizz, fancy brekkie, and presents with them and my sister.
Five types of cheese, two bottles of whiskey, one bottle of gin (unwrapped, not consumed) and a wooly bobble hat later I went to get my head down for a few hours because I was working the night shift again...and woke up feeling like pure cold poured shite. That bug I thought I'd fought off had only been lying in wait for me. I took a lateral flow test with my fingers crossed it was going to come back positive. Look, I know, I know better, I honestly do, but due to, um, staffing issues (burnout, Brexit, fucking vaccine refuseniks) my work right now has a cast iron policy of no time off unless it's covid or you've actually gone and died (...and even then) so I've worked three full night shifts in a state where I can only be grateful that they were quiet enough that I didn't have the opportunity to accidentally hurt anybody.
I've finally hit a couple of days off and a full fourteen hours of sleep with no alarm set seems to have kicked whatever it was into touch a little.
So, an update on our happy family Christmas - I have given my bug to my sister who is now both horribly ill and worried that this means she won't be able to fly home as planned, and is taking it out on everybody else; my mother is loudly announcing that Christmas is ruined and alternately blaming me, my sister, my employer, the government (Scottish and Westminster, alternately), and the novel coronavirus; my father has expressed no opinions but has elected to join me in a medicinal whiskey.
The dog, on the other hand, is delighted, not only did she get a fuzzy toy bee and a marrow bone for her Christmas, but she seems to think that all of the shouting and excitement is for her benefit.
