I was surprised by how good the Hawkeye trailer looked...I mean, it's Hawkeye for chrissake. Still, the Disney+ Marvel shows have been uniformly good (with the exception of Falcon and Winter Soldier which I still maintain is the Iron Man 2 of the shows.)
But I have really, really been enjoying What-If these last few weeks, even if some episodes have been better than others.
What If... Captain Carter Were the First Avenger? - Peggy!Cap was worth the price of admission alone! Although having read hundreds of thousands of words of that AU I was a little disappointed by how much of it was a straight up retread of First Avenger, a movie I have seen all of once, on a phone, years after it came out, and didn't like much for reasons unrelated to the phone thing (I don't like Steve, sorry not sorry.) Although, maybe it was just me, but does Hayley Atwell not do a lot of voice work? Because her delivery as Captain Carter felt...weirdly broad.
What If... T'Challa Became a Star-Lord? - This was an awesome half hour of telly, not just because it was Chadwick Boseman's last performance, although that did add an extra layer of poignancy to the whole thing, but because they actually went off and did something loopy and cool with the concept rather than just redoing canon with this one tweak. Although I suppose episode one had to be more conservative to introduce the concept to people whose favourite genre of fiction isn't Alternate Universe: Canon Divergence.
What If... the World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes? - I appreciate this show's commitment to sidelining Tony Stark (I also don't like Tony, or Bucky, or Clint, or Sam...you can see why the MCU fandom is not a natural home for me) even going so far as to mothball the episode that seemed to feature him most heavily.
What If... Doctor Strange Lost His Heart Instead of His Hands? - I...did not remember that Doctor Strange had even had a love interest. What a waste of Rachel McAdams.
What If... Zombies?! - HECK TO THE YES. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS WAS PERFECT.
What If... Killmonger Rescued Tony Stark? - A few of the episodes felt like they were five to ten minutes too short, but this one more than most. What If...Pepper and Shuri took down Killmonger should have been a whole episode of its own.
What If... Thor Were an Only Child? - This was a good fun time.
What If... Ultron Won? Lake Bell does a really good Natasha Romonoff.
What If... the Watcher Broke His Oath? - Three thoughts 1) WAY to bring in the zombies 2) I will be over here shipping Nat/Captain Carter like whoa 3) resurrecting Black Widow into the canon universe on an animated spin-off on their streaming service would have been a helluva power move and I'm kind of bummed Disney didn't do it.
