I had a brief unpleasant moment of existential angst this afternoon, of the what if this is my life forever variety. Luckily I was in the waiting room at the vets - a totally normal place to have such an episode, I'm sure you will agree - and somebody walked in with a tiny kitten in carrier so I immediately felt quite a bit better.

Of course, while I was going: Aw, lookit the titchy kitten, the dogs were going: FOOD!

I may need to find a new vet.

If I ever get to be as rich and eccentric as I'd like to be, I'm going to employ someone to follow me around with a basket of kittens for just such situations. Until that day, I have this picture of a kitten wearing a hoodie

It has been raining endlessly for the last fortnight here, which is always mildly depressing. However I have discovered that if I put mousse in my hair then go out into the garden I get a cool victorian ringlet effect. Which may become somewhat spoiled when I catch walking pneumonia from standing about in the rain with wet hair.

I made bubble and squeak potato cakes for dinner, mainly because I accidentally bought a cabbage the other day. You see, I was starting to feel slightly judged by the woman in the shop when she only ever saw me buying red wine, apples and peanut butter.

I kept wanting to insist that I don't actually live that way. I do live that way, 'tis great.

I read two really good books in a row, The Windup Girl which was a bit of slow-burner plot-wise, but more than made up for it with the futuristic Bangkok after the oil's run out setting, and Rivers of London which is very funny urban fantasy/mystery for the more geekishly inclined among us; our protagonist knows what an Edwardian frock coat is because of Doctor Who.

I'm onto Iron Council now, which I'm sure I will enjoy because I always enjoy China Mieville, but it sometimes takes the first quarter of the book or so for my brain to disengage from reality and fully appreciate the glorious weirdness.

I have been watching an awful lot of rugby at peculiar hours of the morning, which has been lovely. Scotland are joint top of our pool, and I'm saying that now because I suspect that's only true because we haven't played Argentina or England yet. I am being very mature about this, Tequila Boy is... not. We had lunch today and I left him in the corner of Starbucks conducting experiments to see if he could injure the entire English pack with his brain from the other side of the planet.

Call me cynical, but I suspect the answer is no.

Ireland and Wales are both looking a bit lively, so at least there will be someone for me to root for once Scotland go home.
